Many negativities are affecting both the physical and mental health of people because of environmental factors such as air pollution, noise pollution, and wastewater. In addition to these adverse environmental factors, people’s diets greatly affect their health. With the rising use of sugar, especially in recent years, diseases caused by sugar have also increased today. At this point, I decided to quit consuming sugar due to prevent diseases are caused by sugar one and a half years ago. This post includes how I achieve this, how I decided to quit, and the result that I have been experienced.

The process of the stop to eat sugar for me

When I was in high school, I had the habit of going to the market every single day after school, buying junk food and eating it with pleasure. It is like a nightmare now. At the beginning of 2019, two years after I graduated from high school, I finally start to get aware of something about my diet and the foods. Also if you are reading this writing now, you are getting aware of something about the harmfulness of sugar and minding for your health. Then a got this awareness I tried to eat healthier for a month and doing exercise but I ate sugar at these weeks I saw a channel on youtube that involve healthy videos and there was a woman who did not eat sugar, I said this is impossible for me because I adore desserts, and I simply can’t do that. Things did not go like this. After 6 months, in July 2019, I watched a documentary called That Sugar Film about the harm of sugar. I realize how much is sugar dangerous, and I decided to try not to eat sugar for a while. The first week was so hard actually because I was trying to not eat sugar and I had a very serious headache. In fact, I was kind of addicted to sugar because I had consumed too much sugar for years so this is the reason why I got a headache. After the first week, I wanted to complete 21 days because of the research on gaining habits in 21 days and I completed it. Time passed after that and in this time I learned lots of desserts recipe which does not contain sugar. Frankly, I didn’t think sugarless life would take that long then but I succeed that, so if I can do that, you can do that too when you would like to do it. After I watched the documentary and decided to quit sugar, I have learned lots of things about nutrition. I understand that the damage is due to our processing and the unnaturalness of food. This is a long way and there are lots of things to learn.

Can you lose weight by not eating sugar?

When you consume sugar-containing foods, your body will want more sugar, so you may find yourself constantly consuming sugar-containing foods. This is an addictive effect of refined sugar. If you quit sugar, your desire will decrease time by time and you will probably start to eat less. It will be inevitable that you will lose weight this way. If you asking me, yes I lost weight when I start this adventure without a workout for about 13 kg (28 lb) in 4 months on average.

The good sides of not consuming sugar

Although there are multiple advantages of sugarless nutrition, I will mention what I have experienced.

  • It helped me get rid of excess weight as I mentioned above, so I reached a healthier weight.
  • My teeth are definitely healthier now because refined sugar has a great damaging effect on teeth. (before I quit sugar my teeth would decay very often)
  • The final biggest effect is feeling good :)

In the conclusion, my weight was not the main reason I take this decision but it also helped. The last thing I would like to add is that I consume honey and fruit instead of refined sugar (not without dessert!). The reason why I decided to quit sugar was caring about my health. If you care about your health too, please minimize your sugar usage.

Have a nice day.
